EMILY LOURDES CRISTOBAL

Emily Lourdes Cristobal is currently a student at Emerson College. She is majoring in Journalism with minors in Environmental Studies and Marketing Communications.

Although she has moved across the country for college, she was born and raised in Hawai‘i on the island of O‘ahu. There she attended high school at Punahou School, where she found her love for Journalism and Environmental Science.

The love for these topics and the want to make an impact on the world led her to join KUPU Hawai‘i’s summer internship program. During this internship, she learned about the physical efforts it takes to restore an ecosystem back to its natural state. She camped in the Ko‘olaus, cutting down invasive species; picked up trash and debris on the North Shore of O‘ahu; and planted native species, such as ‘ohai.

While attending Emerson College, Emily has gained essential leadership and organizational skills through her job as a Resident Assistant and Executive Board members for the inter-cultural organization Asian Students in Alliance (ASIA) and the co-ed professional fraternity Delta Kappa Alpha (DKA). She has also interned at KHON-TV located in Honolulu, HI and at the Harvard Belfer Center located in Cambridge, MA.

Emily also has a passion for documentary and multi-media journalism. She is currently producing a documentary series about race on a predominantly white campus.

She hopes to use her major in Journalism to bring awareness to topics such as climate change, the importance of sustainability, and how our everyday actions impact the world around us, as well as culture and issues in public affairs. Simply, Emily strives to tell the stories of people from all walks of life.
